Journey’s End + Q&A with Producer Guy de Beaujeu, hosted by Andrew Warren
April 21 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Journey’s End is a play written by R C Sherriff, and recently released as a movie earlier this year. Both the play and the movie are set in the trenches of the Western Front, just before Operation Michael, the German offensive of March 1918. In the play, the action takes place entirely in the claustrophobic atmosphere of an officers’ dugout while the British officers and their men wait for the enemy attack. The movie, directed by Saul Dibb and starring Asa Butterfield, Sam Claflin and Paul Bettany, has a wider canvas, and we are able to experience events beyond confines of the dugout, in this centenary of the end of World War 1.
For this special viewing at Westlands, we are fortunate to have the lead producer of the 2018 movie, Guy de Beaujeu, available for a Q&A after the film. This session will be hosted by local First World War expert Andrew Warren. Guy produced the feature film version of Private Peaceful, based on Michael Morpurgo’s seminal and award-winning novel. This movie was directed by veteran Pat O’Connor and starred the late Richard Griffiths (in his last film), Frances de la Tour, Maxine Peake, Jack O’Connell and George Mackay. Private Peaceful was released in the UK in autumn 2012.
Guy’s other projects include Helen Dunmore’s Zennor in Darkness, and he is currently co-writing and producing Kid Carney (working title) with Saul Dibb attached to direct – the true story of American STASI spy Jeff Carney. Guy has written and produced independent features and documentaries as well as TV. He co-wrote and co-produced a comedy feature What You Will, released through Soda Pictures.
Andrew Warren lives near Wincanton and is producer for the Wincanton Youth Theatre. He’s spent many years researching the First World War, has written five books on the subject, and has a great interest in Journey’s End. Andrew will be chairing the Q&A and fielding questions from the audience – if you have something you would like to ask please do email us in advance – email@example.com.
